If you want to be an actor, forget making films and concentrate on acting in them.
There is always call for actors in the no-budget scene. Do a search on the web for casting agencies, see if you can get on their books.
You don't want the added grief of trying to make a film, believe me!
And I don't think any actor ever has got a job on the strength of their qualifications (okay, so you don't mention you failed), rather you have to be dependable, punctual, prepared to put up with shit, spend your own money, and act professionally under direction from the, uh, director.

Dear Deepcote,
Please can you tell me more about yourself.
I am currently looking for lead actors for a short film I'm producing at the moment.
If you are interested, please read "Actors / Actresses wanted for leading roles in short film" posted by me.
(It's probably near the bottom)
If you are interested, or want to know more, please E-mail me at [email protected]
with your details, and maybe we can work together!
Look forward to hearing from you.

You want to write, produce, direct, and act? Not as easy as it sounds. But it could be done. But you should at least have a friend producing with you. A movie can cost a lot, so you need a friend to contribute his time, ideas, and money (hehe). You should try to team up with some friends who are also interested in filmaking. But don't let them change anything. It's your movie, and you call the shots. They work for you.
Do you have any equipment yet. Camera? Editing software?
Good luck on your work.

I forgot to recomend some books. If you're going for the whole doing-everything-by-youself thing, read "Rebel Without a Crew" by Robert Rodriguez. This book will really inspire you and make you believe that you can make a good movie for nothing.
If you want the really technical side of filming. Costs, sets, actor costs, equipment, etc. If you want that then check out "Shoot to Kill: How an Independent Producer Blasts Through the Barrier to Make Movies that Matter" by Christine Vachon. She produced such movies as "KIDS" and "I Shot Andy Warhole" and "Velvet Goldmine". This book is pretty long and very detailed. And will most likely bore the hell out of you.

Just reading your last few posts Deepcoate and got to say first thing i would recomend to you is to get some experience on someone elses film. because its sounds like you dont exactly know what you want to do. also you would get to make some good contacts.
equimpent is never a problem as a producer you should have that little black book with so & so who owns this and know how to blag. equimpent companies are quite generous to newbie film makers. you've just got to learn the art of blagging and as a producer thats your post important point, as well as knowing how to say "No" in five different ways.
You can make contacts quite easily start getting yourself to screenign s of other films, get psots out on boards like this.
thats the producing bit.
The Directing bit, if you havent got control over your actors and crew on set and not getting the footage you want, thats definetly a sign of a bad director
I Produce/Direct/Write myself sometime and its not easy luckily i have a damm fine crew behind me , a damm good screenwriter and assitant producer. if i didnt have those people behind me then i couldnt do it all. a lot of people i know also advise against starring in your own film as it takes away several things such as profesionalism and theres always the danger of the "look at me i Love myself Syndrome"

Whatever equipment you have,its enough.
Just do it. Whoever you know. They are just right. You are a beginner, you cant be fussy.
Put an add up in a local paper, in the newsagent window...asking for actors/crew. Anyone who might want to help for laughs. Start a local video makers club.
You aren't alone, believe me, you just havent met the others yet.
If it doesnt work, if the people you get turn out to be arseholes, then do it all over again. And again and again.
your first film isnt going to be a masterpiece, its going to be fun. So let it be fun, dont get serious about it. Take a chance and do it. Again and Again and Again and Again...and laugh lots.
